In a batch check, some gift cards show a balance and some show not activated. What does that mean?

On a gift card check for any supported brand, GiftVeri sends a pre-query to that brand official API and reads whether the card status in the response bytes is empty. An empty status means the card is not activated or not enabled, and GiftVeri does not send the balance query. A non-empty status means the card already holds data, so GiftVeri continues the balance query and returns the balance and other details the brand sends. The check is read-only and does not affect later reloading of the card.

Read the decision first

In a batch check, some gift cards show a balance and some show not activated. What does that mean?

On a gift card check for any supported brand, GiftVeri sends a pre-query to that brand official API and reads whether the card status in the response bytes is empty. An empty status means the card is not activated or not enabled, and GiftVeri does not send the balance query. A non-empty status means the card already holds data, so GiftVeri continues the balance query and returns the balance and other details the brand sends. The check is read-only and does not affect later reloading of the card.

What happens when the pre-query comes back empty?

GiftVeri sends a pre-query to that brand’s official API and reads the card status in the response bytes. An empty status means the card is not activated or not enabled, and the balance query is not sent. Every brand uses this same rule.

What happens when the pre-query is not empty?

A non-empty status means the card already holds data. GiftVeri then sends the balance query, reads the balance and other details the brand returns, and gives them to you. The check stops after that balance. It does not send another query.

Can this check affect a later reload?

No. The pre-activation check is read-only. An empty status stops before the balance query. A non-empty status stops after the balance is read. Neither case changes whether the card can be reloaded later.

Does a failed sign-in count as not activated?

No. A failed sign-in, a connection error and an unknown response are not an empty status from the pre-query. They are not treated as not activated or not enabled.

Does an empty status show that the number was never copied?

No. An empty status only means this side has no card data right now. It cannot show whether the number was copied earlier. A genuine card that was never activated, and a copied number that has not been loaded yet, can both come back empty.

Does a pending authorization count as empty?

No. A pending authorization is not an empty pre-query status, and it is not $0. When no explicit amount was read, the result stays unknown.

If sign-in says not activated, is that this gift card?

No. Not activated during a failed sign-in refers to the account. It is not an empty card status from the pre-query, and it is not used to mark this gift card as not activated or not enabled.

Do Free include this?

No. Only an active PRO plan can use the pre-activation check on a gift card query for any supported brand. The client verifies the plan online before each use.

How the pre-query decides

On a gift card check for any supported brand, GiftVeri sends a pre-query to that brand’s official API and reads whether the card status in the response bytes is empty or not. Apple and the other brands use the same rule.

An empty status means the card is not activated or not enabled, and the balance query is not sent. A non-empty status means the card already holds data, so GiftVeri continues the balance query, returns the balance and other details the brand sends, and then stops.

A public thread asked what a balance site is actually reading. What it reads here is this pre-query: an empty card status means the balance query is not sent; a non-empty status is what continues on to the balance.

A later reload is unchanged

The check is read-only. It does not call activate, redeem or reload. An empty status stops before the balance query. A non-empty status stops after the balance is read. After a card is marked not activated or not enabled, you can still reload it through the place that sold it and keep using it.

What is not an empty status

A failed sign-in, a connection error, HTTP 541, a rate limit, an expired session or a response that cannot be read are not an empty status from the pre-query. They are not treated as not activated or not enabled. See the results guide.

Which plan
